GFA President Kurt Okraku mourns Raphael Dwamena’s passing, calls it a major loss to Ghana football

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, mourned the untimely demise of Raphael Dwamena, highlighting the profound loss felt by Ghana as he spoke at the funeral held today.

Dwamena, a former Real Zaragoza and Levante player, tragically passed away on November 11 due to a cardiac arrest suffered during a match in the Albanian League for Egnatia.

Okraku, speaking on the sidelines of the funeral at the Adjirigano Astro Turf in Legon, expressed condolences to Dwamena’s family and acknowledged the footballer’s struggles with heart-related issues, which had thwarted his aspirations, including a potential move to the English Premier League’s Brighton and Hove Albion.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures in Ghanaian football, including GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and former Black Stars players Isaac Vorsah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu.

“Nobody can replace the loss of a life and when it is that the person is so close to you, that’s when you really feel the importance of the demise of the soul,” he told Citi Sports.

“Ghana football has lost a big big talent; somebody perhaps who could have scored loads of goals for our national team,” he added.
