The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it is stepping up efforts to improve the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and position it among the top leagues globally, following its recent ranking by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The GPL was placed 100th in the world, a ranking the GFA believes must be viewed within proper context and used as motivation for further development rather than discouragement.
GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, stressed that leadership is about confronting challenges head-on and driving sustained improvement.
“Leadership is about solving problems. Despite the challenges, we remain focused on improving the Ghana Premier League and ensuring it is rated among the best in the world,” he told Citi Sports.
According to Twum, the Association is conducting a broad review of the league’s structure and operations, with attention on competition standards, visibility, stadium infrastructure, branding, and player welfare.
The GFA believes progress in these critical areas will enhance the league’s quality and global perception, while also increasing fan engagement, commercial appeal, and investor confidence.
The renewed push forms part of a long-term strategy aimed at transforming the GPL into a more competitive and marketable football product on the international stage.
