GFA Elite Academy recorded their first victory of the U17 Elite Girls Colts Championship by coming from behind to beat Eastern Region 2-1.
Eastern Region made the stronger start when their in-form striker, Ruth Fosu, continued her scoring run by giving her team the lead in the first half.
GFA Elite Academy responded after the interval, with Joyce Awane and Faustina Atimoaning scoring the goals that completed the comeback. Their efforts turned the match around and secured maximum points for the academy in the ongoing tournament.
The result marks GFA Elite Academy’s first win of the championship, while Eastern Region were unable to hold on to their advantage after taking the lead through Fosu.
Elsewhere, Greater Accra secured their second victory of the tournament with a narrow 1-0 win over Upper East Region.
Venuye Aglebe scored the only goal of the match, a result that moved Greater Accra further up the table. The victory strengthened their position in the competition as they continued their campaign with another important three points.
Northern Region also maintained their impressive start by defeating Ashanti Region 1-0. Ruhia Mohammed scored the decisive goal to hand Ashanti Region their first defeat of the tournament.
The result means Northern Region have now collected nine points from three matches. Their perfect record so far underlines the strength of their opening run in the U17 Elite Girls Colts Championship.
Volta Region claimed another narrow victory after beating Upper West Region 1-0 in a match in which they had to work hard for the points.
Upper West Region failed to convert their chances, allowing Volta Region to take advantage. Vida Mordzaka scored the only goal of the game, providing the difference between the two sides.
The latest results produced wins for GFA Elite Academy, Greater Accra, Northern Region and Volta Region, while Eastern Region, Upper East Region, Ashanti Region and Upper West Region were left without points from their respective matches.
GFA Elite Academy’s comeback was the standout result, with Awane and Atimoaning overturning Fosu’s first-half goal to give their side momentum in the tournament. Northern Region’s victory was also significant, extending their run to three wins from three matches and taking their points total to nine.
