Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku met and spoke with Black Stars deputy captain Thomas Partey in London on Thursday.
The two talked about the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and Okraku encouraged Partey to make a strong comeback from injury.
Partey has been out with an injury since April and is unlikely to play again this season, according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
“He’s progressing but he had a significant injury, a recurring injury as well, so we don’t expect him to make progress that quickly to see him this season, but hopefully I am wrong,” Arteta said.
However, Ghanaians are hopeful that he will be able to play in the first game of the qualifiers against Madagascar on June 1 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Partey has been impressive this season. He played a key role in the Black Stars’ qualification to the 2022 World Cup, scoring the game-winning goal in the second leg of the playoff against Nigeria in Abuja.
At club level, the midfielder has excelled, playing a key role in Arsenal’s top-four push. This season, he has three goals and three assists in 24 league appearances for Arsenal.
If the Gunners finish strongly, they will be back in the Champions League for the first time in a long time next season.
Okraku also met with Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu, who has now confirmed his commitment to the Black Stars.
