England faced off with Germany in their second Nations League clash of the year on Tuesday evening.
The Three Lions headed into the game looking to bounce back from a rather disappointing defeat to Hungry in their tournament opener last week.
But when all was said and done in Munich, Germany and England shared the points. Germany got the better of England in the first 45 but were unable to find that all-important goal.
It took just five minutes of the second half for them to open the scoring, though, as Hofmann smashed an effort past Jordan Pickford.
England, who very slowly grew into the tie, were then handed a lifeline late on when Schlotterbeck brought down Kane in the box. The England skipper then stepped up from 12 yards to send Neuer the wrong way.

Germany player ratings
Manuel Neuer (6) – Commanded his box well and was composed on the ball. Made a great save late on to deny Kane but then dived the wrong way for England’s penalty.
Lukas Klostermann (6) – Put in a number of good tackles and won several duels.
Antonio Rudiger (6) – Was a threat from set-pieces and was accurate in his passing.
Nico Schlotterbeck (6.5) – Carried the ball out from the back well, won a number of ground duels and his passing was largely solid. A good display was marred by him giving away a penalty late on, however.
David Raum (6) – Was a real threat going forward, producing a number of key passes. Also helped keep Saka quiet.
Joshua Kimmich (6) – Lackluster first 45 that saw him fail to make a tackle, interception, block or win a ground duel. Better second half which saw him slip in Hofmann for his goal.
Ilkay Gundogan (5) – Was one of Germany’s quieter players on the night but still linked well with Kimmich in the build-up to the opening goal.
Jonas Hofmann (7) – Scored 22 minutes in but was offside. Pressed well along with Havertz and Musiala. Got his goal after 50 minutes.
Thomas Muller (6) – Caused England’s defence some issues but ultimately unable to produce that killer pass/shot.
Jamal Musiala (7) – Was a nightmare for Walker to deal with due to his pace and quick feet. Showed good pressing ability as well.
Kai Havertz (6.5) – Caused England’s centre-backs issues, won a number of aerial duels.
Substitutes
Timo Werner (3) – Did little of note whilst on the pitch.
Serge Gnabry (3.5) – Failed to have much of an impact on the game.
Leon Goretzka (4) – Unable to keep Grealish and Bellingham quiet.
England player ratings
Jordan Pickford (4.5) – Made a few good saves but he could have done better with the Germany goal. His distribution was ok.
Kyle Walker (5) – Good interception early on to deny an almost certain goal. Struggled to deal with Musiala.
John Stones (5) – Struggled to keep the same line as Maguire, leading to Germany getting in behind too often.
Harry Maguire (4) – Had a tough time dealing with Havertz and the onrushing Germany wingers/full-backs. Also kept stepping out of defence far too often, leaving big spaces in behind, including for the Germany goal.
Kieran Trippier (3) – Once again looked far from his best on the left. Was out of position for Germany’s goal.
Declan Rice (6) – Was aggressive in his tackling, tidy in possession and carried the ball well.
Kalvin Phillips (4) – Made some good tackles which led to England attacks. Had to go off with an injury after 13 minutes though.
Mason Mount (6) – Was decent in possession and pressed well. Struggled to provide the creative spark England needed however.
Bukayo Saka (4) – Had a fairly anonymous match that saw him create little.
Harry Kane (5.5) – Missed a big chance 26 minutes in, which he skied and hen another after 76 minutes, which Neuer saved. Finally scored after 87 minutes from the spot.
Raheem Sterling (4) – Really poor display. Was hardly in the game and when he did get the ball, he wasted his chances.
Substitutes
Jude Bellingham (7) – Was one of England’s better players when he came on, winning a number of duels and making the most tackles of any player from the away side.
Jack Grealish (6) – Was brought on to add some much-needed creative spark. Did so after just a few minutes but Kane missed a great chance.
Jarrod Bowen (3) – Did little of note.

Jamal Musiala is bloody good. He clearly learned a lot during his short time with Southampton…

Few bumps and bruises for England in a first half where they were largely second-best.
Philips forced off early on, Sterling pulled up and now Saka limping off at half-time.

Jude Bellingham winning the ball back high up the pitch has been England’s main threat.

Since his appointment each year is dipping. This isn’t the team that dominated Spain a couple of years ago and was covered up largely by home advantage during the Euros. You are meant to improve on the pitch as a team. #SouthgateOut
