German defender Benjamin Henrichs, who remains eligible to play for Ghana, is set to take an important step toward full recovery after being sidelined for nearly a year with a torn Achilles tendon.

The RB Leipzig right-back has not featured since suffering the injury on December 20, 2024, during a 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich. The non-contact setback kept the 28-year-old out for almost 12 months, stalling both his club form and hopes among Ghanaian fans who continue to track his international future.

Leipzig head coach Ole Werner has confirmed that Henrichs will begin partial training with the squad next week as his rehabilitation enters its final phase.
Werner described the defender’s progress as “positive,” adding that Henrichs can now handle “a good workload” as he edges toward a full return.

“As things stand now, he will rejoin the team for part of the time next week,” the coach said, noting that the process will still require steady, careful buildup.

Henrichs, a 19-time German international, has long been monitored by Ghanaian supporters due to his eligibility through his Ghanaian father. His return to fitness will once again revive conversations about a potential Black Stars switch  a topic that has sparked interest anytime his form peaks.
