George Boateng, an assistant coach for the Black Stars, believes the team had “very good planning and organisation” for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
Despite this, Ghana could only manage a group-stage finish in Qatar, following a win against South Korea and two defeats to Portugal and Uruguay
“When we look back, we can say we had good preparation and organisation. We planned well.
“As coaches, staff and as a team, I think when we look back, there is no way we could say that we missed out on something,” Boateng said in his World Cup review video shared on Instagram.
Prior to the tournament in Qatar, the Black Stars played Brazil and Nicaragua in September before a confidence-boosting victory over Switzerland in Abu Dhabi on November 17.
“I think going to Abu Dhabi as part of the planning and preparation for the World Cup was excellent.
“Getting the players to get used to the weather, different culture and the heat as well as getting to know the style of play.
“A lot of the players hadn’t played in a World Cup game before so the preparation against Switzerland was very good.
“Also, the victory and the way we played against Switzerland gave the team a morale boost in terms of confidence.
“So when we look back, I think we had very good planning and organisation,” the ex-Aston Villa youth team trainer emphasised.
Following Ghana’s exit from the World Cup, head coach Otto Addo left the job and reverted to his German club Borussia Dortmund as per arrangement. But as of yet, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has not provided any information regarding the future of the remaining technical staff members of the Black Stars.
