Former GFA Vice President George Afriyie has endorsed the Black Stars’ plan to engage in top-level friendly matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are scheduled to face four-time world champions Germany in an international friendly in Stuttgart on March 30, 2026, as part of preparations for the tournament.
The match is expected to be one of several high-profile fixtures lined up before the Mundial kicks off in June.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Afriyie described the strategy as timely and necessary given the demands of the global stage.
“Playing high-profile friendly games is the right approach ahead of the World Cup,” he said.
The 2026 tournament will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, marking Ghana’s fifth appearance at football’s biggest event.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before clashes with England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
