Barcelona were beaten 1-0 by Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
Alvaro Garcia Rivera’s seventh-minute goal proved pivotal, handing the capital’s visitors three vital points.
It was a difficult night for La Blaugrana, who are currently on a dismal run of form.
Barcelona have now lost three of their last four matches, falling to Eintracht Frankfurt, Cadiz, and Rayo, while narrowly defeating Real Sociedad. This has spoiled what had been a promising start to Xavi Hernandez’s tenure at Camp Nou.
And, according to Mundo Deportivo, that was not the only unfavorable headline from Sunday.
Frenkie de Jong started the game but was substituted in the 60th minute by Xavi. The Dutchman stormed off the ground, discarding his shin pads, and went directly to the dressing room.
He then returned to the bench to watch the remainder of the match, but his outburst was not well received by many.
De Jong began alongside Sergio Busquets and Gavi in a midfield three but struggled to make an impact. Nico Gonzalez was picked to replace him.
