Forson Amankwah scores free-kick in SCR Altach defeat

Young Ghana midfielder Forson Amankwah netted for SCR Altach in a 2-1 defeat away to Austria Wien on match-day 14 of the 2022/23 Austrian Bundesliga Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old gave the visitors a surprise lead at the Generali Arena in the 42nd minute, scoring with a superb free-kick despite slipping while effecting the strike.

But the lead from the WAFA SC graduate did not last long as midfielder Dominik Fitz equalized for Austria Wien from close range just two minutes into the second half.

While the game looked to be ending in a 1-1 stalemate, Austria Wien won a penalty inside added time with Fitz stepping up to convert to mark his brace and the match-winner.

Amankwah – who has played in every league game since arriving on loan from champions Red Bull Salzburg – was substituted for Csaba Bukta after 80 minutes.

RSC Altach are 9th in the 12-team Austrian Bundesliga standings with 14 points from as many games.
