The former Youth and Sports Minister has urged the Ghana Football Association to consider appointing a local coach as their next Black Stars coach.
He believes a local coach understands the environment and what Ghanaians value and how to go about dealing with them.
Nii Lante Vanderpuye is saying this after the sacking of Chris Hughton following Ghana’s disastrous Africa Cup of Nations.
“It is better to have somebody who understands the cry of Ghanaians, who knows the feelings and sentiments of Ghanaians,” he told Citi TV.
“We should have a long-term goal for whoever comes in, set him some KPIs, and begin to mark him by that, then all of us in this country, we can mark him by that.”
In their final Group B game against Mozambique, Ghana needed a victory but succumbed to two late goals in added time, resulting in a 2-2 draw and elimination from the competition.
The disappointing exit included an unforgettable penalty by Andre Ayew in the 91st minute, allowing the Mambas to take the lead.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori then conceded an unfortunate corner when his decision caused him to make contact with the ball without grabbing it. The subsequent corner was scored in the 94th minute, marking the end of Ghana’s AFCON campaign.
