Former Premier League player sentenced to jail for breaching strict court orders

Former Celtic player Anthony Stokes has been sentenced to five months in jail for breaching court orders by contacting his ex-girlfriend and her family.

According to The Mirror, the court heard that Stokes repeatedly messaged his ex-partner, accusing her of infidelity and questioning her parenting abilities.

Depute fiscal Fergus Warner revealed to the court that Stokes had bombarded his ex-girlfriend with emails, breaching the ban.

Stokes also posted statuses on social media alluding to his ex-partner’s alleged infidelity.

These actions came after Stokes admitted to sending abusive messages via WhatsApp and email to his ex-girlfriend in September 2019.

He had resorted to name-calling and showed up uninvited at her residence, demanding to know her whereabouts. The abuse persisted from July 2018 to February 2019.

Stokes had previously been issued a four-year non-harassment order against his ex-girlfriend and her parents in September 2019. He was also enrolled in an anti-domestic abuse program.

However, it was his move to Celtic in 2010 that truly saw him flourish. During his time with the Hoops, Stokes became a key figure, contributing significantly to the club’s domestic successes, including several Scottish Premier League titles and domestic cup triumphs.

Unfortunately, he was also embroiled in a lot of controversies and scandals throughout his career which have overshadowed his playing career.
