Former Ghana boss Chris Hughton is emerging as the frontrunner to take over as the new coach of the Republic of Ireland, according to the latest odds from bookmakers.
With odds of 11/4, Hughton leads the race ahead of other contenders such as John O’Shea at 4/1 and Steve Bruce at 9/2. Lee Carsley and Willy Sagnol are both listed at 10/1 odds, while Roy Keane trails behind with odds of 16/1.
The 65 year old who previously managed the Black Stars, has garnered significant attention for the role despite his unsuccessful stint with the African side.
He was sacked by Ghana last January following a poor AFCON display when they were eliminated at the group stage. Now, it seems he is poised to make a return to international management with Ireland.
Hughton won 53 caps for Ireland, featuring in the Euro 88 and Italia 90 squads, and previously served as Ireland assistant to Kerr from 2003 to 2005.
