Forgotten Tottenham man Bryan Gil provides telling update on future as Spanish powerhouse circle

Tottenham man Bryan Gil has given a telling update on his future at the club despite persistent links with a transfer away to Valencia.

Gil joined Tottenham in a £22.5million move from Sevilla last summer. Given his price tag, Spurs would have hoped for a bigger impact than he provided in the early going.

However, his initial period at the club did not quite pan out that way. The Spaniard played just 86 minutes of league football across nine appearances, never starting.

As such, he was shipped out to Valencia on loan in January. He has already made as many league appearances for the Spanish side – seven of those have been starts.

Indeed, there have been whispers of a permanent move to the Mestalla. Valencia’s fans are reportedly keen to see Gil remain at the club.

However, his recent comments point to a desire to prove himself in England, despite a tough start.

“It’s hard because it’s the first time you go out to live in another country, with another language,” he told Marca.

“The pace in England is a bit higher. It takes a bit more physicality and it’s hard, but I think I’ll get used to it.”

Gil also feels that Tottenham has a squad full of quality, which is reinforced by the amount of quality players they are able to send out on loan.

“It is a very broad squad, with very good players. They are showing it with a very good winning streak that has placed fourth in the Premier League and they have very top players,” he added.

“Letting players like Lo Celso, Ndombele or me play on loan and still keep winning. Which is what Tottenham has shown so far, that they are a very competitive team and that they are at an incredible level.”

Gil not looking too far ahead

Despite links away, and an apparent desire to prove himself with Spurs, Gil is not looking too far to the future.

He is simply cherishing his time with Valencia, and has the Copa del Rey final in his sights.

“There are very nice games left and experiences that we are going to live very nice before the end of the season, why it is better to think about those games than what will happen next,” he said.

“Nobody knows what can happen tomorrow and it will be decided in the summer. Is the only thing that I can say.”

It remains to be seen where Gil will be playing his football next season. But his good form for Valencia cannot hurt matters one bit.
