“Forgive and move on” — Foh-Amoaning urges Black Stars to include Nketiah, Hudson-Odoi for 2026 World Cup

Former member of the 2014 Dzamefe Commission of Inquiry, Moses Foh-Amoaning, has called on the Ghana Football Association to put past decisions aside and consider Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana have already booked their place at the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and both England-born players of Ghanaian descent are reported to be open to representing the four-time African champions.

However, their possible inclusion has divided opinion, with some stakeholders including GFA President Kurt Okraku  arguing that players who previously declined Black Stars call-ups should not be rewarded with selection ahead of the global showpiece.

Foh-Amoaning disagrees, insisting that quality and experience must take precedence over sentiment if Ghana are serious about competing at the highest level.

“I will plead that we forgive and do away with the motions when we are talking about Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM.

He argued that Ghana’s current playing pool cannot be compared to the squads that competed at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, making it necessary to strengthen the team with proven top-level talent.

“The players we had then are not the same as what we have now. That is why I’m pleading that we include these two players, especially because of England,” he added.

Foh-Amoaning also pointed to Hudson-Odoi’s recent performances in England, claiming the winger stood out even in matches featuring Mohammed Kudus.

“I watched Hudson-Odoi against Tottenham, and you could clearly see the best player on the pitch was Hudson-Odoi. If we add him and Eddie Nketiah to this Black Stars team, it will benefit the country and improve the squad.”

At the 2026 World Cup, Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England on June 23 in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After disappointing group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, Ghana will be eager to go further at the expanded 2026 finals.
