#FootyTransfers: FC Augsburg sign Ghana’s Patric Pfeiffer until 2027

German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg have officially announced the signing of Ghana international Patric Pfeiffer.

The 23-year-old arrives at the club on a free transfer after helping SV Darmstadt 98 gain promotion to the top flight.

Pfeiffer has signed a four-year contract, ending 2027.

Augsburg moved to sign Pfeiffer – highly regarded by coach Enrico Maaßen – last summer but a deal could not be reached. The centre-back decided to see out the final year of his contract with Darmstadt – a side he joined in 2019 from Hamburg for €250,000.

Pfeiffer played 24 times, scored four and provided one assist to help Darmstadt in their promotion push in the just-ended Bundesliga 2. season.

“I had a wonderful time in Darmstadt, with promotion to the Bundesliga the icing on the cake.

“They often say you should finish on a high note, so I have decided to start a new chapter in my career in Augsburg.

“The talks with FCA’s management convinced me that Augsburg is the ideal place for me to continue my journey in the Bundesliga,” said Pfeiffer.

FC Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter also added:

“We’re proud that we have been able to bring Patric Pfeiffer to FCA despite lots of interest from other clubs. We’re getting one of the best defenders in the second division this season, someone who can help us achieve our goals in the coming years with his pace, his tackling and aerial ability.”

Patric Pfeiffer is yet to be capped by Ghana. He committed his international future to the four-time Fifa World Cup campaigners prior to the 2022 Mundial in Qatar.
