On the eve of the first semi-final between Croatia and Argentina (Tuesday, 8 p.m.), FIFA published, through a press release, the figures of its anti-doping protocol set up for this World Cup in Qatar but also before the competition. A device that had been validated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as recalled by the governing body of world football. In addition to the numerous checks, “the national anti-doping organizations, as well as their respective confederations, have been contacted in order to obtain their support” in this approach.
Through this press release, FIFA wished to recall that the fight against doping had been an integral part of this 22nd edition of the World Cup. “Each player was subject to random checks before Qatar 2022™, while systematic checks were carried out during the competition, both after matches and on non-match days” can we also read on the website of the authority. The figures for the various checks carried out are therefore logically impressive for such an event.
No positive control during the competition
We are talking, in fact, of several thousand tests that were carried out either before or during this World Cup. “As part of FIFA’s extensive doping control program for the 2022 World Cup, a total of 2,846 tests were carried out, while each player from the quarter-finalist teams was tested on average more 4.5 times since January 2022, some even having been up to ten times” we learn in the FIFA press release. Figures that correspond to the influx of many players who participated in this World Cup in Qatar with their respective selection.
To conclude its press release, FIFA recalls many figures related to this anti-doping protocol. It is useful to remember that in less than a month of competition, 369 checks were carried out on the sidelines of matches. Especially since since November 18 (start date of the World Cup), no player has tested positive. A great victory for the organizers despite all the controversies surrounding this 22nd edition of the World Cup.
