Ferran Torres signals Paris Saint-Germain preference as Barcelona soften stance

Paris Saint-Germain have moved closer to one of their main summer transfer targets after Ferran Torres told people close to him that he wants to join the European champions, a decision that could lead to formal negotiations with Barcelona.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Torres has communicated his desire to play for Paris Saint-Germain and has also informed several Barcelona team-mates of his decision. The forward’s position has prompted Barcelona to reassess their stance and become willing to listen to offers for the Spain international.

Discussions between representatives of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are expected to take place at the beginning of next week. However, the two clubs have not yet reached a final agreement over a possible transfer and negotiations will be needed to establish the terms of any deal.

Barcelona’s change in approach follows Torres’ reported decision to pursue a move to Paris. The 25-year-old is understood to be a priority target for Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, who believes the player’s ability to operate in several attacking positions would make him a valuable addition to his squad.

Torres enjoyed one of his most productive seasons since joining Barcelona. He scored 16 goals and supplied two assists in 33 La Liga appearances, strengthening his case as one of the leading attacking options under consideration by the French club.

He also played an important role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph, scoring the winning goal in the final against Argentina. That contribution has further increased interest in the forward, who can be used as a centre-forward or on either wing.

Paris Saint-Germain are searching for a new striker following the departure of Goncalo Ramos. Luis Enrique is said to regard Torres’ tactical flexibility as a particularly important quality, with the player capable of filling different roles across the frontline.

Earlier reports from Spanish newspaper Sport said Paris Saint-Germain had told Torres they would be prepared to improve any contract renewal offer Barcelona might present. The French club are also confident they can persuade the player to make the move to Paris.

If the transfer goes through, Torres would become the second player to move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in the space of six months. He would follow the emerging talent Dro Fernandez, who joined the French club during that period.

Ousmane Dembele made the same switch three seasons ago, moving from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain before either Fernandez or Torres. The possible arrival of Torres would therefore further strengthen the recent connection between the two clubs in the transfer market.

For now, no agreement has been completed, but the player’s reported preference and Barcelona’s willingness to consider offers have created the conditions for talks to begin.
