Ferran Torres’ next move could shape Barcelona’s plans after Paris Saint-Germain links

Barcelona are maintaining a calm public stance over Ferran Torres’ future despite continued reports of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Spanish forward entering the final year of his contract. The club remain committed to extending his deal, but will not begin formal negotiations until after the summer transfer window closes.

Catalan newspaper Sport reports that Barcelona’s position has not changed. The club intend to discuss a renewal with Torres in September, once the Spain international has returned from his holiday and joined Hansi Flick’s squad for training.

The recent speculation has included claims that Torres has reached a preliminary agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. However, sources within Barcelona say the club’s offices at Camp Nou have received no official approach from the French side.

They also say Torres and his representatives have not indicated that the player wants to leave Barcelona.

The club’s approach is consistent with how it has handled other players entering the final year of their contracts. Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia were both allowed to continue into the last season of their respective deals without Barcelona accelerating renewal discussions.

De Jong eventually signed a new contract in October, while Garcia completed his renewal in December. Those cases have reinforced the sporting department’s belief that there is no need to rush such negotiations.

Barcelona regard Torres as an important part of their sporting project and plan to make him an offer that reflects the club’s established wage policy and its assessment of his performances.

The club believe his current salary is appropriate for his importance to the team. Any potential increase, therefore, would have to remain within Barcelona’s financial limits.

The next significant step is expected when Torres returns from his break. Barcelona want to speak to him directly to establish his intentions, particularly because all information about Paris Saint-Germain’s interest has so far come from media reports rather than official contact between the clubs.

If Torres tells Barcelona that he wants to leave, the situation would change substantially. The Catalan club would then consider negotiating a transfer that satisfied all parties.

Should he express no desire to depart, Barcelona will continue preparing for the new season with Torres in their squad. They would also pursue a contract extension designed to fit both their sporting plans and their financial strategy.

For now, the decision rests largely with the player. Barcelona are not treating the Paris Saint-Germain reports as evidence of an imminent departure and have chosen to wait until Torres returns before deciding how the situation should develop.
