FC Samartex dominates as Ghana Premier League’s first round concludes

The first round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League finished in a thrilling exhibition of football brilliance, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. FC Samartex and Aduana FC are the home winners, both with an outstanding eight wins.

The excitement doesn’t end there; a total of 283 goals have been scored throughout 145 matches, with eight more games remaining to formally conclude the first leg of this exciting season.

Champions Medeama SC and MTN FA Cup holders Dreams FC have four games each to play in January to officially draw the curtains on the first round of the campaign.

FC Samartex lead the League table with 32 points, two points ahead of second placed Aduana FC (30 points) and three points richer than Asante Kotoko (29). Newly promoted club, Nations FC accumulated 27 points to finish fourth.

Former Champions Asante Kotoko picked 4 wins on the road to become the club with the most away wins. Berekum Chelsea grabbed three away wins with two-time winners Aduana FC recording two wins on the road.

Accra Great Olympics goalkeeper Benjamin Asare finished the round with 10 clean sheets followed by Kofi Baah (FC Samartex), Emmanuel Kobi (Bofoakwa Tano), Obeng Sekyere Gregory (Berekum Chelsea) and Daniel Afadwu (Nsoatreman FC) who had 8 clean sheets each.

On the top scorers chart, Isaac Mintah and Augustine Okrah scored 9 goals each, with Steven Mukwala Desse of Asante Kotoko (8), Baba Hamadu of FC Samartex (7) and Stephen Amankonah of Berekum Chelsea scoring 6 goals in the first round.
