Faith Ladies pip Berry Ladies to maintain unbeaten run in Southern Zone

Division one

Ladystrikers scored in the closing minutes to grab three points against regional rivals Essiam Socrates Ladies Saturday. The home side took charge of the first half striking from all angles but their efforts failed to produce a goal as the first half ended goalless.

Ladystrikers were awarded a spot kick inside 51 minutes but Hannah Soti was denied by the crossbar. Sensing danger being posed by the attack by the home side, Socrates Ladies packed the bus to avoid a late onslaught but their hearts were broken in the 94th minute when a cross from the right side was neatly converted by Mariam Olawumi Abdulkabir to give the home side victory.

At Ejumako, Jonina Ladies scored a last gasp goal to beat Soccer Intellectuals at home. Eunice Kpenteey gave the visitors a sweet revenge over the host following a similar score line in the first half of the season. It was a game the guest dominated in both departments but failed to make use of the chances created. Jonina profited from a defensive blunder in the 82nd minute when Intellectuals defenders failed to clear their lines and Eunice made no mistake to punish them.

Elsewhere at the Madina Astro turf, Berry Ladies lost to Faith Ladies in a keenly contested game that ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors. Victoria Amenyo of Berry Ladies was forced out of the game and replaced by Felicity Antwi-Agyei due to injury in the 25th minute.

With less than 5 minutes to end the first half, Faith Ladies also made their first substitution as Alice Longdon was replaced by Portia Prempeh. The second half started with high intensity especially from the home team as they pressed for the opening goal but it came to naught with Faith Ladies holding on a goalless draw at the break.

Berry Ladies made a double substitution in the 71st minute with Felicity Antwi-Agyei and Doreen Graham making way for Mingle Nana Yaa Andoh and Benedicta Swatson.

Faith Ladies scored from the spot through Margaret Agyapong after they were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute – to keep hold of their unbeaten run in the ongoing Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
