Fabio Carvalho’s Liverpool pathway confirmed by boss Jürgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp opens up on development pathway for Liverpool starlet Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is hardly a stranger to keeping faith in those that are under his tutelage regardless of their age – a trait he has maintained throughout his managerial career dating back to his time with 1.FSV Mainz 05 – and the German headmaster looks set to stick to his principles when it comes to summer signing Fábio Carvalho.

When speaking with the club’s official website (cited by Empire of the Kop), Klopp opened up on his initial expectations for Carvalho and what role he looks set to play for Liverpool in the upcoming 2022-23 season regardless of his tender age.

“When we watched him it was a pure joy to watch him, absolutely. He can play so many different positions for us, and the way we play. At the minute he’s not really set on one position – it’s the wing, it’s the eight, it’s the 10, it’s the false nine if he grows a few more muscles.”

“It’s a short-term and a long-term project; he can start tomorrow and he needs to adapt, you can see that a little bit, but when he has the ball that’s proper quality. I’m over the moon that he’s here. Fantastic prospect.”

It is perhaps telling that Klopp has not ruled out Carvahlo’s transition into a false 9 role as a potential successor to Roberto Firmino despite Liverpool splashing a club-record fee on Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez.

But given the propensity for the German to place a high amount of importance on players that are tactically versatile, it is fair to suggest that Carvalho could have a considerable role to play for the Reds from the very beginning of the upcoming season.
