Former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has retired from football following the death of his father.
Tevez’s adopted father Segundo Raimundo died following Covid-19 complications last year, and in his announcement, he stated he found it ‘very difficult’ to play without his ‘number one fan’ watching
“I have retired, it’s confirmed. They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything. Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan,” he said.
The 38-year-old also revealed that he had turned down offers to play in the USA – one of the few countries that Tevez didn’t ply his trade in throughout his storied career.
Tevez played for seven different teams across three different continents, with his prime years coming while in Europe with West Ham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus.
