Charles Kwabla Akunnor, former Black Stars manager and player, has encouraged Ghanaians to stick by Otto Addo after an impressive start by the gaffer in his second tenure.
Otto Addo, who was brought in the stead of the axed Chris Hughton after a tepid African Cup of Nations (AFCON), is yet to lose a competitive game on his return.
Addo, whose first stint was largely characterized by topsy turvy moments and was pre dominantly judged on the 2022 World Cup, was appointed to steady the ship a second time for the Black Stars in March 2024.
The appointment – which is believed to be on a 34-month basis, with an option of a two year extension – has gone according to plan, leading to successive victories for the team in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana’s turn in fortunes has seen coach C.K Akonnor call for the support and backing of Otto Addo from Ghanaians.
“The fact that they have given him a long contract says it all; this is all we have all hoped for. Meaning that, he will have time to prepare this team for a long time, at least five years. He needs our support, everybody must support him,” he said
C.K Akonnor was amongst several casualties, including Kwesi Appiah, Avram Grant, Milovan Rajevac, and Chris Hughton, to have been dismissed as managers of the Black Stars in the last decade.
