Everton make offer for Maxwel Cornet

Everton are heavily linked with a move for Maxwel Cornet, and now a new update has emerged on their pursuit of the player this summer.

What’s the latest?

According to Saturday’s print edition of The Daily Mail newspaper (via Goodison News), Everton have made a shrewd offer for Burnley forward Cornet.

As per the report, the Toffees have launched a brand new £5m proposal upfront for the player that would include a £20m fee paid next summer.

It is reported that Cornet has a £17.5m release clause in his contract, however, Everton are willing to pay the Clarets more if they can come to an agreement this summer.

It’d be a huge coup

Everton are in desperate need of improvements in their squad following a disappointing relegation scrap in the Premier League season, and now with Richarlison making a £60m move to Tottenham Hotspur, their need for a quality forward to strengthen their team has never been more vital.

Despite being relegated with Burnley on the last day of their Premier League campaign last season, Cornet has been a quality performer in the team.

Over 26 appearances, the Ivorian international scored nine goals, delivered one assist and created two big chances, taking 1.8 shots and winning .8 duels on average per game, but it’s not just his attacking threat that will have caught the eye of the former Chelsea manager.

The 25-year-old has a wealth experience in playing several key roles and has been deployed over the left and right wing, centre forward, left-back and midfield, something that would be valuable to Everton next season as Lampard figures out his best-suited style of play at Goodison Park.

Cornet was hailed for his impact in the team with Burnley teammate Matt Lowton calling him “refreshing” when he made his first start for the team in the Carabao Cup:

“He’s very energetic and very passionate.”

“It’s refreshing, it’s good to see and it’s nice that players are coming in with that kind of passion to show that they want to help the team.”

Would Maxwel Cornet be a good signing?

With that being said, if Farhad Moshiri can seal the bargain deal for Cornet this summer it’d be a big coup for the Toffees and would surely put them in a great position to strengthen their forward line ahead of the new Premier League season.
