Michael Essien has expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for their support in the wake of Chelsea’s Champions League feat.

The 29-year-old also thanked the Ghana FA for their unflinching support throughout his career.

The midfielder joined a distinguished list of Ghanaians to have won the prestigious competition after Chelsea edged out German giants Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties to clinch the giant trophy last weekend.

The former Olympique Lyon star who was responding to a congratulatory message from the Ghana FA, dedicated the feat to the good people of Ghana for their unwavering support and prayers especially in recent years where he had suffered a series of injury setbacks.

“Many thanks for your kind words,” a statement from Essien read.

“It is indeed a great moment for me and my team mates, one that we have worked for as a team for many years.

“I share this special moment with all my fans especially in Ghana, who have supported me with prayers and well wishes through the good and bad times.
