Former Ghana international Michael Essien has expressed his confidence in Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca.
Essien, who spent nine years at Chelsea, acknowledged the challenges that come with managing the team, but believes Maresca has what it takes to overcome them.
“Chelsea is a tough place, not only for players but also for managers as well,” Essien told talkSPORT.
“It’s unfortunate they got Pochettino out of the way, but I think their new boss will take them to where they want to be.”
“I was there for nine years and I had eight managers. So you can see it’s a tough place.”
“Our time was different, we had great success, this is a new generation and they need to give them chances to get where the club deserves.” he ended
The new English Premier League campaign will kickoff on 16th August 2024.
And Chelsea’s match day one encounter is against Manchester City at Standford Bridge.
