Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru endured a frustrating outing after seeing red in his first start for RAAL La Louviere during Sunday’s meeting with K.V. Mechelen.
The Black Stars player was given the nod from kick-off following two previous substitute appearances.
His opportunity to impress, however, lasted just 16 minutes.
A challenge that initially went unpunished was reviewed by VAR, leading to a straight red card.
The dismissal forced his side to continue the contest a man down for the remainder of the game.
Ashimeru joined the Belgian outfit on loan from Anderlecht in the second half of the season.
The move, confirmed during the winter transfer window, was expected to provide the team with added experience in midfield.
Instead, his first start quickly turned into a difficult learning moment.
The sending-off deals a blow to both the player and the club’s plans for the weeks ahead.
Ashimeru will now hope to bounce back strongly and re-establish himself in the team once eligible to return.
