The Division One League Super Cup finals have been marked by tight contests, decisive goals and dramatic penalty shootouts, with Skyy FC, Liberty Professionals, Bofoakwa Tano, Vision FC and Ebusua Dwarfs among the sides to claim memorable victories between 2021 and 2026.
The 2021 final at the Madina AstroTurf set the tone for the competition’s recent history. Skyy FC and Tema Youth produced an entertaining 1-1 draw, with Ebenezer Mamatah scoring for Skyy FC before Emmanuel Owusu levelled for Tema Youth.
Neither side could find a winner during regulation time, sending the contest to a penalty shootout. Skyy FC eventually prevailed 7-6, holding their nerve in a dramatic finish to secure the first victory in this series of finals.
A year later, the deciding match was staged at the Kyebi AstroTurf, where Liberty Professionals faced Nsoatreman FC. The 2022 final did not require penalties, but it was still settled by the narrowest of margins.
Seedorf Asante scored the only goal of the game to give Liberty Professionals a 1-0 victory. His decisive strike secured a hard-fought success in a final that offered little between the two teams.
The 2023 showpiece at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex followed a similar pattern. Bofoakwa Tano met Skyy FC in another closely contested final, with Saaka Dauda providing the moment that separated the sides.
His goal earned Bofoakwa Tano a 1-0 win and delivered the club the play-off final triumph.
Penalties return
The drama of a shootout returned in 2024, when Vision FC played Okwawu United at Nana Kronamansah Park in Nsoatre. The two teams were unable to break the deadlock during the match, ending the contest 0-0 after a tense battle.
Vision FC then edged the penalty shootout 7-6 to claim the title. The result made it one of the most nerve-racking finals in recent years, with the outcome again decided from 12 yards.
The latest final listed in the series took place in 2026 at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium. Ebusua Dwarfs and Semper Fi also finished level after regulation time, drawing 1-1 in another closely fought encounter.
For the second time in the space of three finals, penalties determined the winner. Ebusua Dwarfs kept their composure to complete a 5-4 shootout victory and add another dramatic chapter to the competition’s history.
From Skyy FC’s 7-6 success against Tema Youth in 2021 to Ebusua Dwarfs’ 5-4 win over Semper Fi in 2026, the Division One League Super Cup finals have repeatedly been decided by fine margins.
The sequence has included two one-goal victories, three finals settled by penalties and four matches in which the losing side either drew during regulation time or was beaten by a single goal.
