To replace Presnel Kimpembe, finally forfeited for the 2022 World Cup, the coach of the France team, Didier Deschamps, pulled a surprise out of his hat on Monday: Axel Disasi!
Clearly, the 24-year-old central defender was not the first name expected to replace the Parisian. Alongside Wesley Fofana and the versatile Boubacar Kamara, the name of the AS Monaco rock has circulated well in recent months with the Blues, but much more was expected of his ASM teammate, Benoît Badiashile. Indeed, the young talent had just celebrated his first two caps in September, notably by making a promising copy against Austria (2-0). It is therefore very surprising to see the coach compromise his famous group logic by calling on a “newbie” rather than an element already seen.

Even more surprisingly, Badiashile is left-handed, like Kimpembe, and therefore seemed to establish himself as the ideal replacement. With Disasi, Deschamps has chosen to use yet another right-hander and Lucas Hernandez will therefore be the only left-hander in the position of central defender! In the event of a tile with the Bayern Munich player, who should form the titular central hinge with Raphaël Varane, DD will therefore have to choose a replacement from among the right-handers William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konaté, Disasi or even Benjamin Pavard and Jules Koundé, rather expected in the right hallway.
Disasi in full controversy
Basically, it seems that Disasi’s recent better form compared to Badiashile has made the difference in Deschamps’ eyes. This choice will not fail to make the supporters of Olympique de Marseille cringe. Between his contribution to the serious injury to Amine Harit and his controversial remarks about the referee Benoît Bastien, who was according to him “for Marseilles“, Disasi has indeed alienated a good part of the Marseille fans during the shock ASM-OM (2-3) Sunday evening…
