Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei praised his players’ tactical discipline and mental strength following their hard-fought 1-0 win over the Central African Republic on Thursday.
A result that sealed top spot in Group C and a place in the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2025.
“This result was the reward for our patience and tactical discipline,” Ofei said after the match at the Suez Canal Stadium. “The boys showed maturity today, and now we look forward to the knockout stage with confidence.”
The Black Satellites dominated possession for much of the match but struggled to find the breakthrough until the 84th minute, when Joseph Opoku calmly slotted home the winner.
Despite the narrow scoreline, Ghana controlled the tempo and remained composed under pressure, a quality that Ofei highlighted as crucial to their success.
With seven points from three group games, Ghana top Group C, ahead of Senegal, who also advanced following a 2-0 win over DR Congo.
The Black Satellites have now gone unbeaten in the group stage for the first time since 2013 and are bidding to lift a record-extending fifth U20 AFCON title.
