South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis says her team is determined to finish strong at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as they prepare to face Ghana in the third-place playoff.
The defending champions were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Nigeria in the semi-finals, ending their hopes of retaining the title.
Now, Ellis is rallying her players to give one last push against a familiar opponent.
“We want to end the tournament on a high note,” she said during the pre-match press conference.
“It’s always tricky playing the same team twice, but we’ll give it our best shot.”
South Africa and Ghana last met in the group stage, where Banyana Banyana earned a 2-0 win.
The two sides meet again on Friday, July 25, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, for a bronze medal.
