Derrick Arthur Köhn has been handed his maiden Black Stars call-up following an impressive loan spell at Werder Bremen last season.
The 26-year-old left-back featured in 27 Bundesliga matches, scoring two goals, and his performances earned him a permanent transfer to Union Berlin this summer.
Köhn’s inclusion comes at a crucial moment for Ghana, who are preparing for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Angola. His arrival is expected to provide competition at left-back, a position where the Black Stars have often lacked consistency.
Speaking after the squad announcement, head coach Otto Addo highlighted the defender’s versatility and attacking threat as key reasons for his selection. “Köhn has shown maturity in the Bundesliga, both defensively and going forward. He deserves this opportunity, and we believe he can add something new to the team,” Addo said.
Köhn, who was born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, had previously represented Germany at youth level but has now committed his international future to Ghana. His debut could come as early as next month when the Black Stars resume their World Cup qualifying campaign.
