Hearts of Oak attacker Daniel Afriyie-Barnieh is the only home-based player named in Ghana’s 29-man squad for pre-2022 Fifa World Cup friendlies later this month.
The Black Stars take on Brazil and Nicaragua on September 23 and 27 respectively.
Barnieh has been rewarded for sustained fine form in recent months at club and national team levels.
The 21-year-old scored Hearts’ winning goal against Bechem United in the finals of the FA Cup last June and went on to score three goals in four qualifying games for the CHAN 2022-bound Black Galaxies of Ghana.
Before this latest call-up, Barnieh made Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Madagascar and Central African Republic in June but played no part in the two games. He was however involved when the Black Stars featured in the Kirin Cup Soccer tournament in Japan later that month.
Daniel Afriyie-Barnieh is highly-tipped to make the party when Ghana heads to Qatar for a 4th Fifa World Cup appearance later in June. He must however impress head coach Otto Addo and his technical team for the spot.
