Daka’s Late Strike denies Mali Victory in AFCON Opener

Mali and Zambia drew 1-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A opener at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.

Mali took the lead through Lassine Sinayoko’s 61st-minute goal, but Zambia’s Patson Daka equalized with a dramatic stoppage-time header.

The result leaves both teams level on points with hosts Morocco, who won 2-0 against Comoros earlier on top with three points.

Mali dominated possession but struggled to create clear chances, with Zambia’s goalkeeper Willard Mwanza making crucial saves, including a penalty save from El Bilal Toure.

Zambia’s fightback was fueled by Daka’s late strike, which silenced the Casablanca crowd.
