Cristiano Ronaldo’s Bayern Munich links shut down

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Bayern Munich links shut down

Word stemming from the German media on Sunday suggests that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, in fact, are not exploring the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The news which Manchester United supporters across the globe were no doubt dreading was of course forthcoming a little over 24 hours ago.

This came in the form of confirmation that star attacker Ronaldo had informed the powers that be at Old Trafford of his desire to depart, should a suitable offer for his services be tabled.

The 37-year-old is understood to be keen to avoid a season plying his trade outside of the Champions League so late in his illustrious career, having been left understandably underwhelmed by developments on the red half of Manchester since his return 12 months ago.

Where, though, could Ronaldo realistically end up?

To this point, three clubs have been pushed as potential landing spots for the Portuguese icon, in form of Chelsea, Napoli and the aforementioned Bayern Munich.

The latter are of course expected to bid farewell to star striker Robert Lewandowski over the coming weeks, amid mounting interest on the part of Spanish giants Barcelona.

In turn, it has been suggested, altogether understandably, that the German giants could seek out Ronaldo as a replacement.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds in the media on Sunday is anything to go by, then such a scenario coming to fruition appears altogether unlikely.

As per transfer journalist Christian Falk of Bild, rumours surrounding Bayern’s interest in the wantaway Manchester United star are simply ‘not true’.

It now remains to be seen whether or not this situation changes over the course of the coming weeks.
