Cristiano Ronaldo has, on Monday evening, taken to social media to send a message of appreciation to former teammate Marcelo.
The name of left-back Marcelo has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the day to date.
This comes with the Brazilian having been honoured by long-time club Real, courtesy of a ceremony to mark his imminent departure from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marcelo’s exit from Carlo Ancelotti’s squad has long been on the cards, after those in a position of power at the club opted not to renew the iconic defender’s expiring contract.
In turn, ahead of seeing his terms officially come to a close at the end of the month, Marcelo was today honoured for his service to Los Blancos, having just last month established himself as the most decorated player in the storied history of the La Liga giants.

The tears inevitably flowed as proceedings got underway in Madrid, with those members of Ancelotti’s ranks to have missed out on the latest round of international fixtures having been sure to stop by to bid farewell to a long-time pillar of Real’s dressing room.
And now, as alluded to above, another close friend of the Brazilian has too sent his well-wishes to Marcelo from afar.
Taking to his official social media platforms on Monday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo paid a heartfelt tribute to his one-time Blancos teammate, labelling Marcelo ‘a brother’, before wishing the defender well in the next chapter of a legendary career:
“More than a teammate, a brother that football gave me. On and off the field, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room. Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo!”
