Cox over the moon with Corberan deal extension

The Express & Star’s Lewis Cox was delighted after hearing the ‘brilliant news’ that Carlos Corberan has signed a new deal with West Bromwich Albion.

The Lowdown: New deal

Corberan put pen to paper on a new contract which will see him through until 2027. Indeed, the Albion boss had been linked with the recently vacant Leeds United job.

The Baggies appointed him as coach at the back end of October following the sacking of former boss Steve Bruce as Albion dropped into the bottom three of the Championship.

In 13 league matches, the Spaniard has won 10 of those games and lost the remaining three.

The Latest: Ecstatic Cox

Speaking on the Express & Star’s YouTube channel, Cox gave his view on the announcement and outlined the details of his new contract with West Brom.

He stated (0:53), “Brilliant news, we all know it comes amid Leeds links, speculation, quite strong as well. We sort of read and heard, Carlos Corberan was well liked, well respected at Leeds, where he worked.

“As far as we can gather and understand, certainly on their radar, possibly part of a shortlist for that Elland Road job, but quickly and happily and efficiently nipped in the bud with that extension. Two more years on top of the deal that was initially until 2025, now 2027.”

The Verdict: Credit deserved

We believe that Corberan deserves immense credit for the job he’s done since taking charge of the Baggies and he’s clearly loved by a large section of the fanbase.

Bruce’s tenure at the Hawthorns to put it bluntly was a disaster, as he only won eight times in 32 matches managed at West Brom.

Corberan has already won more matches than the former Premier League manager in a shorter amount of time with similar tools at his disposal.

His Albion side is in a great position to secure a play-off position at the end of the season in our view, but the table remains tight so all he can do is just keep on winning games from now until the end of the season.
