Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has described Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s 94th-minute winner against West Bromwich Albion as a “special goal”, praising the Ghana winger’s determination to score despite battling cramp late in the game.
The Foxes secured a dramatic 2-1 Championship victory at the King Power Stadium when Issahaku powered home a Stephy Mavididi cross in stoppage time, sealing Leicester’s third win in their last four home matches. The late strike came after fellow Ghanaian Jordan Ayew had earlier opened the scoring, registering Leicester’s first home goal of 2026.
“I’m very happy for Abdul because just before this action ; scoring the goal ; he was cramping a little bit,” Cifuentes told club media.
“He wanted to keep pushing in the last minutes, and that shows that when you believe in something and when there is togetherness in the team, then you get your reward.”
Cifuentes’ comments underlined the resilience and collective spirit he believes were key to the victory, with Issahaku’s perseverance epitomising Leicester’s fighting attitude on the night.
The defeat proved costly for West Bromwich Albion, who confirmed the dismissal of head coach Ryan Mason shortly after the match, with the club currently 18th in the Championship standings.
For Leicester, the contributions of their Ghanaian internationals were decisive, with Issahaku’s dramatic late effort capping a vital win and earning special praise from his manager.
