For several years now, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, and Reece James of Chelsea, have caused quite the debate amongst football fans.
Both are excellent right-backs in their own right, with many of the opinion that Alexander-Arnold has the edge in the attacking third, but James is the better all-round option.
One criticism levied at the former is that the Liverpool man cannot defend at a top level. Now, though, Reece James has spoken out on such criticism, and appeared to attempt to defend his England teammate:
“I gave away a penalty against Hungary so we are both still learning our trade, Liverpool have 95% of the ball and he defends less than I have to. People have a lot of stuff to say and don’t really know the game. Trent is a great player,” James said.

But whilst James was keen not to hit out at TAA, the Chelsea man will be well aware that Alexander-Arnold represents a direct rival for a spot at the 2022 World Cup, and also to become England’s main right-back once Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier begin to decline.
On potentially becoming England’s no.1 right-back, James added: “I’ll try everything I can, Only my performances will be able to prove what I can bring. In these games and building into next season I’ll hopefully be able to show that I’m ready to play every game.”
