Chelsea, Man United target Nkunku set to sign new Leipzig contract

Christopher Nkunku will remain at RB Leipzig this summer after both parties reached an agreement in principle for a new contract.

Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has repeatedly stated the Frenchman, who has a contract until 2024, will not be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer despite interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and his former club Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Bild, Mintzlaff recently flew to London to undergo talks with Nkunku’s agent, Pini Zahavi.

Nkunku’s contract is expected to be extended by one year and will not only include a pay hike but an exit clause that will come into effect from 2023. Per the report, the clause will be higher than €60m (£51.7m).

Nkunku had an outstanding campaign last season, scoring 35 goals and creating 22 in 52 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig.

Nkunku also helped the club lift their first major trophy after beating Freiburg in the DFB Pokal final.
