Chelsea defender Genesis Antwi has joined Ligue 1 club Strasbourg on loan for the 2026/27 season, giving the highly rated teenager the opportunity to continue his development in France.

The 19-year-old centre-back joined Chelsea’s academy when he was 16 and is regarded as one of the club’s most promising defensive prospects. His move to Strasbourg is expected to provide valuable first-team experience in one of Europe’s leading leagues.

Antwi made his senior Chelsea debut in January 2025, starting in the club’s FA Cup third-round victory over Morecambe. He has since become a regular member of Chelsea’s Under-21 side.

Primarily a centre-back, Antwi has been recognised for his composure when in possession, his strength in the air and his understanding of defensive situations. The loan represents the next stage in his development after progressing through Chelsea’s academy and making his first-team bow.

Born in Stockholm to Ghanaian parents, Antwi moved to England at the age of seven. His full name is Genesis Kofi Koranteng Antwi.

The defender is eligible to represent Sweden, Ghana or England at international level. He has played for England Under-16s and currently represents Sweden’s Under-21 team, but remains eligible to switch his international allegiance to Ghana, known as the Black Stars.

Antwi’s move means he will continue his development away from Chelsea during the 2026/27 campaign, with Strasbourg providing the setting for his first sustained experience of senior football outside England.

At Chelsea, he had established himself as a regular at Under-21 level after making his senior debut against Morecambe. His performances have contributed to his reputation as one of the club’s brightest young defensive talents.

The French club’s Ligue 1 status will give Antwi the chance to test his abilities in a different footballing environment while continuing to develop the qualities that have marked him out at youth level. His defensive intelligence, aerial ability and confidence in possession are among the attributes that have helped shape his progress.

For Chelsea, the season-long arrangement allows the teenager to gain first-team experience while remaining part of the club’s longer-term plans. For Antwi, it offers an opportunity to build on his FA Cup appearance and his work with Chelsea’s Under-21 side.

His international options also remain open. Although he has represented England at Under-16 level and is now involved with Sweden’s Under-21 team, he can still choose to play for Ghana in the future.
