Deputy Sports Minister Vincent Asamoah says the technical team of the Black Galaxies did not invite players on merit for the African Nations Championship in Algeria.

Ghana exited the tournament in the quarterfinals after a 2-0 defeat against Niger on Saturday.

Annor Walker’s side lost their opener to Madagascar before securing a 3-1 victory over Sudan in their last group C game – Morocco fixture was cancelled following the latter’s decision to withdraw.

“Let’s all be honest, the players who were selected for the Black Galaxies, were not selected on merit, someone should convince me that they are the best in our league,” Asamoah told Akoma FM.

“How can you select Kofi Kodzi to lead our striking department? Awako is good but he’s aging.”

The Black Galaxies contingent arrived in the country on Tuesday evening as the players look to rest and later join their respective clubs.
