Champions league : Winner FC Barcelona announces 4 contract extensions!

In the wake of its Champions League victory, FC Barcelona announced the extension of four frames, Pique, Lenglet, Ter Stegen and De Jong. It was evening Champions League on the side of Camp Nou this Tuesday evening.

FC Barcelona did not have much trouble to get rid of the Hungarian club Ferencvaros (5-1) thanks to goals from Messi, Fati, Coutinho, Pedri and Dembélé.

Luckily it was a formality!

the Catalan club had visibly planned a surprising announcement in the aftermath of a match: the contract extension of four players.

And not just any players!

Indeed, Barça announced the contract extensions of Piqué, Lenglet, De Jong and Ter Stegen! Four executives who will continue the Barcelona adventure for a long time.

“FC Barcelona and Gerard Piqué, Marc ter Stegen, Clément Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong, have reached an agreement concerning their contract extension. These negotiations include a salary adequacy, due to the Covid-19 crisis,” reads the Barça press release.

Extended contracts as a counterpart for the wage cut?

Initially linked until 2022, Gerard Piqué has extended until 2024, a nice mark of confidence for a 33-year-old player.

Marc-André Ter Stegen, initially tied until 2022, is extended until 2025, “The German goalkeeper, is committed with Barça until June 30, 2025, great !

His release clause increases to 500 million euros. If he reaches the end of his contract, he will have played 10 years in Catalonia,” it also reads.

Clément Lenglet (25 years), who had signed until 2023, is extended until 2026 and his release clause is now set at €300 million.

Finally, Frenkie de Jong, whose current lease extended to 2024, has signed for a further two years until 2026 and has a release clause set at €400 million.

These four players have, according to the press release, accepted temporary salary cuts due to the coronavirus epidemic. This probably justifies the extra years of contract. Good news for the Catalan club.
