Sudan captain Mohamed Abdelrahman has acknowledged the scale of the task awaiting his side as they prepare for a knockout clash against Senegal.
The Falcons of Jediane secured a place in the round of 16 after progressing as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.
That qualification has lifted spirits back home, offering a rare moment of joy for supporters amid a challenging national climate.
For Abdelrahman, the achievement is deeply personal, marking Sudan’s first appearance in the knockout rounds since 2012.
“It will be a very difficult match by all standards.
“We know our opponent well. Senegal are a strong and experienced team with a rich history in the competition. The key to victory is our determination, perseverance, belief in ourselves and our desire to go far in this tournament.”
Sudan are expected to rely heavily on unity, discipline and mental strength as they attempt to defy the odds.
