The nightmare moment endured by Manchester City star Zack Steffen during the club’s meeting with Liverpool on Saturday has since culminated in quite the reaction on the part of fans of the United States national team.
City, of course, are currently locked in action at Wembley.
After playing out a 2-2 Premier League stalemate with the Reds less than a week ago, Pep Guardiola’s troops faced off with their Liverpool counterparts once more, on this occasion in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
As things stand in the English capital this afternoon, however, the Sky Blues look well on their way to an altogether more disappointing result.
This comes with Liverpool in possession of a 2-0 advantage, owing to strikes on the part of Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane.
And it is the Citizens’ 2nd of the clash which, as alluded to above, has since resulted in the name of City back-up shot-stopper Zack Steffen taking its place centre stage in the headlines.
Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, however, this has come for all the wrong reasons.
After receiving the ball in his own goalmouth, Steffen proceeded to dally in possession, allowing the arriving Sadio Mane to easily cut out his attempted clearance, doubling City’s advantage in the process:

Turner > Steffen
One fanbase, meanwhile, to have taken particular notice of Steffen’s moment to forget comes in the form of supporters of the United States national team.
This comes with Man City’s no.2, at present, the first-choice for his country.
Calls have therefore begun to mount for USA boss Gregg Berhalter to demote Steffen to backup duties, to make way for Matt Turner, of course primed to link up with another of the Premier League’s giants in Arsenal this coming summer:
If Steffen isn’t on loan somewhere starting every week by the time the World Cup comes around, Berhalter HAS to pick Matt Turner. It’s very simple. #USMNT https://t.co/n3zn717vMd

It is so far beyond time to declare Turner the starter for Qatar.
Give him the gloves.
(And so far beyond time to stop talking about Steffen’s ability with his feet being what separates the two. Nah…. miss me with that.)

Isn’t Steffen supposed to be better than Turner with his feet? Isn’t that why he’s the starter even though Turner is a better shot stopper… hmmmmmm

Zack Steffen is SO bad. He CANNOT start for City again and he should NEVER start over Matt Turner ever again.

LMAOOOO Zach Steffen in the mud me personally, I will not have him as USMNT’s starting 11 ♀️♀️♀️ he has shown that he has zero urgency and THAT second goal is an example. Matt Turner should start IMO.

Turner > Steffen i dont wanna see this guy start in world cup smh

Not to be dramatic, but Zach Steffen should just lost the starting job to Turner for the 2022 World Cup. Just not a “big stage” guy IMO
