The 2026 summer transfer window brought a series of notable moves for Ghanaian footballers, with Caleb Yirenkyi’s record-breaking switch to Coventry City emerging as the standout deal.

Several other Ghanaian players also secured high-profile moves across Europe and beyond, including Oscar Naasei’s arrival at Real Madrid and Thomas Partey’s move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.

1. Caleb Yirenkyi FC Nordsjælland to Coventry City
Yirenkyi’s transfer to Coventry City was the most expensive of the five deals highlighted.
The midfielder left FC Nordsjælland after attracting attention in Denmark, with Coventry completing a move reportedly valued at approximately £26m. At 20, Yirenkyi is set to continue his development in the English game after making one of the biggest transfers involving a Ghanaian player during the summer.
2. Oscar Naasei Granada to Real Madrid
Oscar Naasei joined one of world football’s most prestigious clubs when he completed a move from Granada to Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old centre-back signed a three-year contract with the Spanish giants in a deal reported to be worth about €2m. His immediate destination will be Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team.
That arrangement will allow Naasei to adjust to Spanish football while continuing his progress within Real Madrid’s renowned development structure.
3. Kojo Oppong Peprah Nice to Fenerbahce
Kojo Oppong Peprah moved from French Ligue 1 side Nice to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The 22-year-old defender agreed a four-year contract after the clubs reached a deal reportedly worth around €12m. The transfer represents another substantial step in the career of the centre-back, who will now continue his development in Turkey.
4. Thomas Partey Villarreal to Al-Shabab
In terms of reputation and experience, Thomas Partey’s move was arguably the most prominent Ghanaian transfer of the summer.
The veteran midfielder left Villarreal at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season before joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab as a free agent. Partey, 33, signed a one-year contract with the Riyadh-based club.
Unlike the other transfers on the list, the move did not involve a reported fee, but Partey’s profile made it one of the most notable changes of club involving a Ghanaian player during the window.
5. Kwasi Sibo Real Oviedo to Al-Swehly
Kwasi Sibo’s decision to leave Real Oviedo for Libyan champions Al-Swehly prompted significant discussion among Ghanaian football supporters.
The midfielder signed a two-year contract with the Libyan club, with the agreement including an option to extend it for a further year. Sibo had been linked with potential moves to other markets, including Turkey, before eventually opting to join Al-Swehly.
