CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has expressed his confidence in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda’s ability to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“I am enormously confident that we will succeed in hosting the 2027 AFCON in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,” Motsepe said at the CAF Executive Meeting, dismissing concerns about the region’s readiness.
The CAF president emphasized his commitment to developing football across Africa, stating that the tournament can’t be limited to countries with established infrastructure. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have been working on upgrading their facilities, including stadiums and air connectivity, to meet international standards.
The 2027 AFCON will mark the first time the region hosts the tournament since Ethiopia in 1976.
Motsepe also announced that AFCON will switch to a four-year cycle from 2028, aligning with global competitions.
