FC Samartex 1996 played to thrilling 2-2 draw with Moroccan side Raja Club Athletic in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Raja took the lead in the 20th minute with a header from Mohammed Azrida off a corner kick.
Samartex responded with a stunning equaliser in the 37th minute when Francis Gyetuah executed a spectacular acrobatic finish.
Just before the break, the home team went ahead 2-1 as Michael Ephson pounced on a rebound from Isaac Afful’s long-range effort.
In the second half, despite Samartex’s continued efforts to extend their lead, Raja equalised with a well-executed team play finished by Mohammed Boulacsout.
The aggregate score stands at 2-2, setting up a decisive second leg at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Samartex will need a win to advance to the group stage.
