Portuguese coach Pedro Leitao Brito, widely known as Bubista, says he wants to lead RS Berkane to further success after taking charge of the club, with a contract reportedly running until 2028.
Bubista described the appointment as an honour and said his ambition was to celebrate trophies with the club’s supporters at the end of the season.
“It is a great honour to be here and to take charge of RS Berkane. We hope that our fans will support us throughout this season,” the 56-year-old said in comments published on RS Berkane’s official Facebook account on Tuesday.
He added: “I want to achieve many things with RS Berkane, so that we can celebrate with our fans at the end of the season… Dima Berkane.”
The Moroccan website Albotola reported that Bubista has agreed a deal with RS Berkane until 2028, following negotiations that lasted several weeks.
The appointment comes after Bubista attracted widespread attention during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he guided Cape Verde, known as the Blue Sharks, through the group stage in their first appearance at the tournament.
Cape Verde then produced an impressive performance against Argentina in the round of 32. Bubista’s side pushed the competition favourites all the way before being eliminated 3-2 by Lionel Messi and his team-mates in extra time.
That campaign significantly raised Bubista’s profile and preceded his move to RS Berkane, who have now handed him the task of building on the club’s recent achievements.
In his first public comments since arriving, the former Cape Verde coach focused on the importance of the relationship between the team and its supporters. His message also made clear that he expects the season to be judged by what RS Berkane can achieve on the pitch.
Bubista’s opening statement combined appreciation for the opportunity with a clear demand for success. He stressed his desire to win with the Moroccan club rather than simply oversee a period of transition.
The Portuguese coach will now begin work on his long-term project at RS Berkane, having secured an agreement that, according to Albotola, keeps him at the club for the next two years. His immediate objective is to turn the optimism surrounding his appointment into performances and trophies, while maintaining the strong connection with the fans highlighted in his first remarks.
